TERRACE, B.C. – A Terrace restaurant, Wings Tap and Grill, was given a “High” hazard rating by Northern Health after a routine inspection on June 11 uncovered multiple critical health and sanitation violations, including an employee failing to wash their hands properly.

The public inspection report detailed two critical and six non-critical violations.

One of the most serious critical violations noted that an employee was “seen touching contaminated surfaces and handles, cleaning dishes and continuing to work in the kitchen without washing their hands.” The report states, “Failure to follow proper handwashing practices increases the risk of contamination and the spread of foodborne illnesses.”

A second critical violation found that the “entire ice machine, both inside and outside, was observed to be contaminated with dirt, dust, grime, and grease,” leading to potential ice contamination. The operator was ordered to discard all ice and thoroughly clean the machine.

Other violations included food not being protected from contamination, unsanitary conditions that could attract pests, improperly stored chemicals, and equipment not being in good working order.

A follow-up inspection was conducted the next day, on June 12. While some issues were addressed, inspectors still found violations—including frozen food found on the floor of a walk-in freezer—and the restaurant was given a “Moderate” hazard rating.

A further follow-up inspection is still required to ensure all violations are corrected.
