TERRACE, B.C. – A call for Terrace RCMP to assist an intoxicated woman early Saturday morning escalated into a broader altercation at a local Halloween fundraiser, leading to the arrest of six individuals.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on November 1. According to a press release from the Terrace RCMP, officers on patrol near the Best Western Terrace Inn on Greig Avenue were flagged down by a hotel employee. The employee requested assistance with a woman who was intoxicated, unable to care for herself, and refusing to leave the premises, where a fundraising event was taking place.

Police entered the hotel and initially located and arrested the woman without issue.

    Situation Escalates

However, as officers were escorting the woman toward the exit, the situation quickly escalated. A second woman allegedly ran up the stairs, yelling at the officers and attempting to grab items on one officer’s duty belt.

“The woman allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted the officers. During the struggle, the woman and arresting officers fell to the landing where she continued to resist arrest,” the RCMP release stated.

As additional bar patrons began closing in on the police, officers called for backup. RCMP confirmed the second woman was taken into custody.

Following this, four more patrons became confrontational, allegedly pushing an officer and refusing to comply with instructions to step back, while the overall crowd reportedly became increasingly hostile. In total, six people were arrested and lodged in cells.

    Injuries and Charge Assessment

Police confirmed that one officer sustained minor injuries during the incident. One of the arrested individuals later complained of shoulder pain and was released to the care of BC Emergency Health Services, while the remaining individuals were released once they were sober.

A Report to Crown Counsel is being prepared and will be submitted for charge assessment.

Terrace RCMP Media Relations Officer, Constable Kelly Cates, reminded the public that alcohol-related disturbances can quickly escalate and urged residents to act responsibly during public events and gatherings.
