TERRACE, B.C. – A notorious house on the 3200 block of Munroe Street, which has been the focus of public safety concerns for years, has been successfully shut down by local authorities.

Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas announced the closure in a public post, calling it a “major victory for public safety in our community.” The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Terrace RCMP, Terrace Fire Department, and City of Terrace bylaw and building inspectors. On September 9, the property was evacuated, its utilities were disconnected, and it was boarded up.

The City’s action follows a series of police investigations at the address. According to multiple RCMP news releases from late 2024 and early 2025, the house was a known hotbed for drug trafficking, with officers executing search warrants that led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cash, and weapons.

Mayor Bujtas praised the multi-agency cooperation but also highlighted the bureaucratic hurdles faced by municipalities. He stated that the closure took “significant time due to higher levels of government bureaucracy” and that he intends to take this issue to a provincial level. Council is set to meet with the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General at the upcoming Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) to advocate for faster tools to shut down such operations.

The closure was made possible through city bylaws after the property owner failed to address several notices for fire and safety hazards.

In his public announcement, Mayor Bujtas reminded the community to remain vigilant. “If you spot anyone on the property, please call the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400.”
