PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. – Prince Rupert City Council has publicly released its annual statement of salaries and expenses and has awarded a nearly $2.8 million contract for the city’s 2025 paving program, following its regular meeting on Monday night.

The 2024 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI), often called the “sunshine list,” is now public. The report details remuneration for all city employees earning over $75,000. In 2024, the city’s top administrative official was the highest-paid employee. The report also shows the mayor’s total remuneration and expenses for 2024 were approximately $130,865, while the seven city councillors’ combined total was approximately $208,116.

In another major decision, council voted to award the 2025 Capital Paving contract to Zulu Aggregates Inc. for their bid of $2,777,779. The amount was more than $1 million lower than the only other competing bid. The work will address various trouble spots around the city and repave areas where major water and sewer upgrades have recently occurred.

Council also received several key reports, including:

    • An update from the Indigenous Relations Committee on its work to create a Reconciliation Action Plan, which will involve a media summer camp for youth and elders and a public engagement event in September.
    • The May 2025 Fire/Rescue Report, which noted that the department responded to 88 emergency incidents in May, more than double the 40 incidents responded to in May of last year.

The full Statement of Financial Information and the 2024 Annual Report are available for public viewing on the City of Prince Rupert’s website.
